EventBookings
platform redesign

One of Australia's biggest ticketing platforms had power but no clarity. I made it fast and simple for the organizers who live in it and the people buying tickets.

020 / PROJECT OVERVIEW

EventBookings helps thousands of organizers run events and sell tickets. It could do a lot, but the flows were tangled, the interface was dated, and satisfaction was slipping.

I led the redesign end to end: simpler flows, a modern interface, and better conversion at every step of the journey.

TIMELINE
2022 to 2023
030 / THE CHALLENGE

Three critical
failures

01

Suboptimal checkout

  • Too many steps
  • Hidden fees revealed late
  • Slow completion (2m 40s)
Result: high cart abandonment
02

Complex event creation

  • 8 to 10 confusing steps
  • Too many fields
  • No guidance
Result: setup abandoned, fewer events
03

Outdated interface

  • Inconsistent layouts
  • Not intuitive
  • Weak first impression
Result: lower satisfaction
040 / GOALS & RESEARCH

Goals

  • Cut the friction in checkout and event creation
  • Increase conversions and event publishing
  • Rebuild the interface on a consistent design system
  • Make pricing and steps transparent enough to trust
  • Put EventBookings back in the fight

Research

  • People wanted clarity, not more features
  • Long forms quietly push organizers away
  • In ticketing, honest pricing is not optional

050 / WHAT I DESIGNED

Strategy into
interface

PRINCIPLE A
Reduce the thinking required: fewer steps, fewer fields.
PRINCIPLE B
Make it predictable: clear prices, clear steps, clear outcomes.
PRINCIPLE C
Unify the surface: one visual language, simpler layouts.
DELIVERABLE 01

Streamlined checkout

Five or more confusing steps became three: pick tickets, check out, pay. Prices are honest from the first screen, fields autofill, and pages load fast.

070 / LEARNINGS
  • Simplifying the core flow moves the business more than anything else
  • Talking to users surfaces friction analytics never shows
  • Building the interface once, consistently, keeps it easy to grow
  • Clear UX earns trust, and trust converts
  • Modernizing an interface is not cosmetic, it drives results

Conclusion

A dated, complicated platform became one people move through without thinking. Clarity, speed, and simplicity lifted usability, conversion, and revenue together, which is the whole argument for taking UX seriously.
